Visiting researchers with external funds: To do list for your first days at RIKEN

1 RIKEN ID card  
2 Register new address at the designated city hall

Required: RC (Residence Card) and passport
Notes:
1. On your employment start date:
Register your "new address at city hall" (makes your Residence Card a valid ID).

<Attention>
If your address is registered before your employment start date, the following must be completed at the same time at city hall:

Register family at the designated city hall 2.  To register your family at the designated city hall, official documents are required to verify the relationship of each family member (Ex. Marriage certificate, Birth certificate) with Japanese translations (Templates: Marriage certificate, Birth certificate).
If you have children, Subsidy for Infant/Child Medical Expenses and Child Allowance may be applied for.
3 Japanese national health insurance for those who will stay more than three months If you will enroll, please request it at the designated city hall when registering your new address, and also file your annual income for the previous year in Japan.

4 Open a bank account Required: RC after address registration, home address, personal phone number and seal (most Japanese banks) or signature (limited banks only)
Notes: SMBC Trust Bank offers RIKEN a Special benefit program(RIKEN ID and signature (OK) are required)
5 Email address To be provided by the General Affairs Div., IT Section
6 Survival Japanese Courses Optional
7 Family Support Services ・Wako Kosodate Network (Wako Childcare Network):
